Established in September 2023, GLT operates mainly in the Shinyanga and Tabora regions. The company is currently inviting applications for the position of Tobacco Area Leaf Manager.
The Tobacco Area Leaf Manager will coordinate and manage all operations in the growing regions to ensure the company meets its production targets. The role involves supervising farm technicians in their daily activities and providing timely reports to management on tobacco production progress.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, implement, and continuously monitor crop action plans to achieve the desired quality, quantity, and cost of tobacco leaf.
- Evaluate and communicate progress on the approved action plan and leaf center objectives for effective and timely decision-making.
- Provide technical and professional guidance to extension personnel and farmers to enhance tobacco yield and quality.
- Monitor competitor activities and develop strategies to maintain a competitive advantage.
- Promote company policies on tobacco growing to farmers and the community to uphold a positive corporate image.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures among all staff and partners.
- Plan, forecast, and communicate materials and supplies (M&S) requirements for the leaf center.
- Identify, assess, and manage business risks in the growing region by implementing both short- and long-term mitigation measures.
- Maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, government bodies, and the business community.
- Oversee and coordinate leaf purchasing to ensure timely and accurate buying processes.
- Manage loans issued to farmers to ensure crop quality and minimize financial risks.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in tobacco production with practical knowledge of leaf grading.
- Strong understanding of tobacco agronomy and postharvest processes, including curing, sorting, grading, and baling.
- Ability to assess tobacco leaf quality based on physical characteristics.
- High integrity, self-motivation, and excellent leadership skills.
- Valid driving license.
