BRAC Enterprises Tanzania Limited (BETL) is a social enterprise launched in 2020 by BRAC International to deliver innovative, market-based solutions to pressing development challenges in Tanzania.

BETL’s flagship initiative, the Angaza Academy model, is a scalable early childhood education (ECE) solution designed for low-income urban and peri-urban families. By combining affordable fees with high-quality learning environments, BETL aims to make quality ECE financially sustainable and impactful.

As part of BRAC International’s global network, BETL builds on BRAC’s 50-year legacy of integrating business principles with social impact. Following a successful pilot of its cross-subsidy model, BETL is now scaling the Angaza Academy Affiliate Model, empowering local Head Caregivers to independently operate BETL-registered centres.

Position Summary

The Technology and Operations Support Intern will support the organization’s digital and operational systems. The role is ideal for a motivated, tech-savvy individual interested in digital innovation, operational efficiency, and social impact.

This position focuses on strengthening systems, improving workflows, and ensuring tools and processes enable high performance while maintaining legal and ethical compliance, particularly in data privacy and child protection.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or recent graduate in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field with a strong focus on tech-enabled operations.

Key Responsibilities

Review & Strengthen Tech Solutions

  • Collaborate with BETL and Tiny Totos to assess existing app viability and benchmark alternatives.
  • Research and prototype scalable tools (spreadsheets, templates, lightweight platforms) to improve operations.

Streamline Systems & Support Functions

  • Document and simplify workflows for training, finance, affiliate communication, and safeguarding.
  • Design tools that reduce duplication, minimize errors, and are easy to adopt by affiliates and staff.

Data Management & Decision Support

  • Assist in collecting, cleaning, integrating, and analysing data for BETL tools (Skills Development Tool, BEQI, finance trackers, etc.).
  • Ensure data usage complies with the Tanzanian Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA, 2022).

Affiliate & Staff Engagement

  • Support affiliates and staff in adopting new systems, tools, and protocols.
  • Collect user feedback to improve usability and relevance.
  • Assist in documentation, reporting, and cross-team coordination.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Embed child protection and safeguarding requirements in all tools and processes.
  • Support compliance monitoring and staff training on safeguarding procedures.

Other Potential Tasks

  • Update daycare centre locations on Google Maps.
  • Explore GIS-based solutions for data-driven site selection.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interest in technology, operations, and social impact.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Swahili.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of digital tools or apps (user support experience is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, and adaptable to a startup-like environment.
