Amana Bank, Tanzania’s first fully fledged Islamic Bank established in October 2009, is currently seeking to recruit a Sharia and Products Officer.
The successful candidate will ensure that all bank operations and products comply with Sharia principles while supporting product development, staff training, and customer education on Islamic banking.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to ensure all bank activities and operations comply with Sharia rulings and recommend improvements to processes and product structures.
- Train bank staff to enhance knowledge of Islamic products, documentation requirements, and pricing mechanisms.
- Review and approve marketing and promotional materials to ensure alignment with Sharia principles.
- Support branches and financing management teams to ensure all financing facilities comply with Sharia and internal manuals.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote Islamic banking awareness through media and public engagements.
- Administer Charity and Zakat Fund activities, including verification and visitation of beneficiaries.
- Provide guidance to staff and clients on Islamic banking and financing instruments.
- Support development and enhancement of Islamic banking products.
- Review and prepare financing contracts, forms, and related documents.
- Conduct product performance assessments and prepare quarterly performance reports.
- Manage and update Fatawa records and prepare easy guides for products.
- Develop training materials and coordinate Sharia and product training sessions.
- Follow up on Sharia audit findings and ensure timely remedial actions.
- Review policies and manuals annually to ensure compliance with Sharia standards.
- Manage and monitor charity fund activities.
Core Competencies:
- Strong commercial mindset grounded in Sharia principles.
- Creativity and ability to design innovative Sharia-compliant solutions.
- Excellent communication, persuasion, and presentation skills.
- Ability to train and coach on Islamic banking and finance topics.
- Solid knowledge of Islamic banking products and innovation.
- Understanding of the Tanzanian Islamic banking environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Banking and Finance, or a degree in Banking, Finance, or Commerce with an additional certification or diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance.
- Professional qualification in Islamic Banking, Sharia (Jurisprudence), or Islamic Studies is an added advantage.
- The position reports to the Sharia and Products Manager.
