Marine and Coastal Community Conservation Zanzibar (MCCC LTD), established in 2010, is a leading organization dedicated to helping communities in Tanzania’s coastal areas develop strong and effective local resource management systems. These systems aim to support livelihoods and sustain marine ecosystems.
MCCC LTD, also known as Mwambao, facilitates a community-based network across various coastal areas, enabling local communities to learn from each other and engage in collective action on shared interests, such as influencing policy. Working with key international partners, Mwambao focuses on improving reef ecosystem health, enhancing the sustainability of key fisheries, and improving local well-being by involving fishers in managing their fishing grounds and providing alternative livelihood opportunities.

This project is being delivered in partnership with Blue Ventures International. The Project Officer will work with other Mwambao field officers in Unguja under the supervision of the Project Lead and the Executive Director.

- Assist the Programme Manager in project monitoring and evaluation of conservation and social outcomes.
- Support the development of community incentives and motivations to enhance compliance with marine management measures.
- Prepare progress and technical reports for submission to funding partners via the Programme Manager and maintain project records.
- Participate in Mwambao Coastal Community Network and MCCC LTD initiatives related to community coastal conservation.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in fisheries, ecology, natural resources management, or a related discipline.
- At least three (3) years of professional experience in fisheries, marine ecology, or a similar field within Tanzania.
- Strong understanding of the social, cultural, and livelihood contexts of coastal communities in Zanzibar and Pemba.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.
