The purpose of this role is to safely operate and maintain defined packaging equipment (filling and labelling process areas which have a significant business impact on costs and consumer quality) and related processes to achieve optimal effectiveness. The Process Artisan also provides engineering support to the maintenance function through repairing, replacing, or manufacturing parts for plant, machines, and equipment in manufacturing.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate the process area according to work instructions and adhere to usage standards.
  • Carry out required quality checks as described in the quality control and analysis work practice.
  • Record waste on the appropriate documentation or information systems and review waste trends to identify problems or opportunities timeously.
  • Constantly review process performance against target and complete all short interval control documentation.
  • Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that result in stoppages.
  • Follow appropriate problem-solving approaches as detailed in the problem-solving work practice.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks, apply 5S principles, and follow safe work practices.
  • Identify unsafe work practices and take corrective action.
  • Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks.
  • Take part in maintenance planning meetings, contributing suggestions and clarifying required work.
  • Carry out autonomous operations as defined for the process areas.
  • Identify defective plant and report to the Team Leader to assist with resolution.
  • Assist the Machine Specialist in executing running repairs during shift.
  • Support fellow team members during planned maintenance windows.
  • Participate in maintenance postmortems, providing feedback on problems, opportunities, and learnings.
  • Conduct required quality checks and analyses, recording results in the appropriate information system.
  • React to quality results using VPO tools.
  • Actively participate in shift meetings, asking questions and contributing suggestions, and record issues in the action log.
  • Fully understand the team Dream and contribute to achieving it.
  • Use relevant communication media (e.g., shift logbook) to stay informed and update others on issues.
  • Complete proper handovers to incoming shift teams, communicating issues relating to plant performance, quality, and maintenance.
  • Use VPO problem-solving tools to resolve and record issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical Qualification/National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Electrical aptitude.
  • Machine-specific experience.
  • 9 months on-the-job training plus Manufacturer Basic Maintenance Training.
  • SKAP Completed.
  • 1–2 years’ experience as an Artisan.
