Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU)

On September 4, 2014, the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) was formally established following the promotion of the former Moshi University College of Co-operative and Business Studies (MUCCoBS) to full university status. Under the then-Ministry of Co-operatives and Community Development, the Co-operative College Moshi opened for business on January 5, 1963, with the goal of training employees in the cooperative sector. With this, the MoCU officially came into being. The Co-operative College Moshi was renamed Moshi University College of Co-operative and Business Studies (MUCCoBS) in 2004 after becoming the Constituent College of Sokoine University of Agriculture.

MoCU is situated along Sokoine Road in the Moshi Municipality of Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Region. The university is currently composed of the following departments, bureaus, directorates, and institutions:

  • Faculty of Co-operative and Community Development (FCCD).
  • Directorate of Undergraduate Studies (DUS).
  • Faculty of Business and Information Sciences (FBIS).
  • Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Studies (DRPS).
  • Directorate of Co-operative Library and Archives (DCLA).
  • Bureau of Consultancy Services (BCS).
  • Directorate of Human Resources Management and Administration (DHRMA).
  • Institute of Continuing Co-operative Education (ICCE).
  • Directorate of Planning and Finance (DPF).
  • Dean of Students (DoS).

Kizumbi, Shinyanga Municipality, is home to the university’s only teaching facility. Additionally, it offers services in every Tanzanian area through its 13 regional offices. Moshi, Tanga, Shinyanga, Mwanza, Dodoma, Tabora, Kigoma, Mbeya, Iringa, Songea, Kibaha, Mtwara, and Singida are the locations of the regional offices. offers a variety of field training programs, research, residential and non-residential learning programs, consulting and advising services, and customized programs.

Through teaching, research, and consultation on all subjects pertaining to co-operative development, rural transformation, business studies, information and communication technology, law, accounting, finance, and other pertinent sectors, MoCU seeks to advance knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and creativity.
